Girl Scouts are collecting eyewear to donate to people around the world who need them.
Hopefully you stocked up on the candy because it could be a busy night for trick-or-treaters. But not all of them will be looking for the sweets.
Girl scouts will be out tonight collecting used eyeglasses for those who need them.
In the days leading up to Halloween, Girl Scouts went around and put up doorhangers in their community. It's a warning they'll be coming by tonight. Not just for candy but also for used eyewear.
"They're going to be going to people who need eyeglasses, but are too poor to get them, so they'll be going to poor people all around the world," says Girl Scout Kayla Tapia.
It's all part of sight night, a community service event put on by the Give the Gift of Sight foundation and Lions Club International. The girls are looking for used prescription eyeglasses and non-prescription sunglasses.
Once collected, volunteers will hand-deliver the glasses to people who need them, from El Salvador to Peru.
"It feels good to know that we're helping other people," says Tapia.
It's doing something for others while getting some treats at the same time.
"I really like it, but it's going be really fun because we know that we're going be helping somebody while we're doing it," says Girl Scout Abigail Malloy.
In fact, some of these girls know the need for glasses first hand.
"I don't think I could see like that without my glasses on," says Christine Toering.
That's why they're hoping to fill up their baskets so that others around the world can see clearly.
"If you can only donate like one pair of glasses or something, just know that that's one more person that will be able to have them," says Abigail.
If the girls don't knock at your door tonight, you can bring your eyewear to a number of eyeglass stores around town.
